Description

RARE TRIPLE WHITE 1973 Corvette convertible!
White paint, white top, white interior. Painted 7 years ago; new top 4 years ago; new leather seat covers 3 years ago; The expensive but GREAT-LOOKING real McCoy shiny new Chevrolet side exhaust pipes & covers 3 years ago; Rebuilt transmission 3 years ago, and soooo much more has been replaced on this car it would take too long of a list to document it all. I have 2 folders each 3” thick with receipts. Only the best went into this car. This car looks and sounds GREAT! It is period correct (except for the side pipes which technically were only available on the 1969 Corvette). Otherwise it looks just like it did when it came off the showroom floor, down to things as small as various decals on the car (like the coolant decal on the fan shroud ; emissions decal on the left side of the firewall ; tire pressure decal on the left door jamb; spare tire decal on the backside of the rear storage box, etc. No detail was too much or too time-consuming to do for this car. Another example of the pain-staking details that went into this car is that it not only has the original type of A/C system (including the original style V.I.R. <Valve In Receiver>) from back then, but it is also charged with the period-correct R12 freon (for reference, now all cars have R134 since about the early 90's if I remember correctly). This car's A/C blows COLD with the R12. The car is a matching numbers car, including it has it’s original 350 c.i. engine, and originally came with an automatic transmission, factory A/C, PS, PB, AM/FM stereo, tilt & telescopic steering wheel, rally wheels, leather interior, deluxe door trim panels. It also has the very rare shoulder belt harnesses, of which this option was only purchased on a very few cars that year (the lap belts were standard equipment and all cars came with). I think the only option this car did not have was power windows. In 1973 cruise control was not offered (I think 1977 was the first year for that option). As far as the alloy wheel option (P02 I think?), if I remember correctly GM did put this option on only 2 cars in early 1973, but it was subsequently soon cancelled due to some manufacturing issues with those wheels.
While there have been a lot of restorations on this car, the overwhelming majority of it was put back EXACTLY to the way these cars looked when they came out of the factory back in 1973. The production date on this one was January 1973.
The engine is the original one (numbers matching stamped on the flat pad on the right front of the engine as was normal from Chevrolet), however I installed a GREAT SOUNDING camshaft. This cam, combined with the side exhaust makes this car sound like. a. beast! (I made a YouTube video of it idling.... click below to have a listen...

I did make some enhancements for drivability purposes, like the original automatic transmission, a Turbo 350 (3-speed automatic) was replaced with a later version GM transmission that looks exactly like the Turbo 350 (it has the exact same outer aluminum case), but this one is called a “200R4”. This is a GM 4-speed automatic and what it did was greatly lower the RPM’s at highway speeds, so the fuel mileage is much better, the noise levels at those speeds have been decreased, and it saves on engine life. Instead of the engine taching at about 3,000 at 55 mph, now the tach shows about 2,500 RPM’s. So just by looking at it, no one else would ever know the transmission is anything but the original – the shifter and everything else is all the same. I still have the original numbers-matching transmission and it will go with the car. I also installed an electric fuel pump, which helps with the lower-quality fuel sold these days. It keeps constant pressure of fuel to the carburetor, so there are fewer driving issues. I also installed a 2nd horn (only 1 horn was offered by GM).
While it looks, drives and sounds great, it does have a ding or imperfection here or there - mostly related to paint - like a couple of paint dings on the front bumper cover or a worn edge where the polisher rubbed through. The only actual body defects are a small 2" crack on the right fender where it meets the bumper cover, and 2 very small 1/2" stress cracks at the rear edge of the hood (I think from the stress of closing the hood for 43 years). The car is not a "garage queen", so if you are a perfectionist you would probably want to have it painted. But it looks great from 10' and it does get LOTS of attention.
CAR'S HISTORY - As far as I know, I am the 4th owner, and the mileage is the correct mileage. The guy I bought it from lived in South Carolina. He said he thought it was originally purchased new from that general area, and that the first owner was a Carolina attorney that bought it for his wife (I think he said she owned it for the first 7 or 8 years). According to him, they then sold it they sold it to another person somewhere in either North or South Carolina, they had it for 5 or 6 years until he bought it. The guy I bought it from owned it for about 10 or 11 years. He doesn't remember any of the previous owner's names, and I did do a title search when I first bought it but to my dismay I turned up no verifiable chain of title/owner information. The car is mostly all original, and most of the body panels are original, but in about 2007 it had an engine fire on the right side of the engine that damaged the right fender area, including the right front tire, some engine components on the right side (A/C compressor, fan shroud, and evaporator box). All of that was replaced with either new or NOS GM parts (the right fender, skirt, a/c evaporator core and some other items) - or very good quality new reproduction items (like the A/C wiring harness) - or with some very nice-condition used items (the A/C evaporator case). The cause of the fire was a crack in the rubber fuel line, which spewed fuel onto the right side exhaust manifold. He said the fire happened just as he was backing the car out of his garage, so the car was still "cold" and he was able to get to a water hose and get the fire put out fairly quickly. Still, for the short time it burned it did that damage as described above (I think I still have some photos of the car at that time). But the damage was definitely not what I would call a serious fire (it did not get into the interior at all, not the windshield, not the right door, nothing on the firewall at all, nothing on the front of the car like the headlights or bumper, nor nothing on the left side of the car at all). The damage it sustained in my opinion was not severe enough to be called a total loss, but his insurance company sold it as such and I bought it from them and repaired it. As far as the repairs that were done I did all of them. Some history on me is that I used to be a full-time Corvette (only) bodyman, painter and mechanic back then when these cars were new. I worked on these cars exclusively back then and for many years afterwards, and know them top to bottom and forwards and backwards. So every detail about the restoration of these damages was done with great precision and knowledge of these exact cars. To be sure, there are no tell-tale signs that the car had ever been repaired.
