OPERATIONAL REPORT...this Corvette LOVES to be driven and is quite strong and confident on the highway. Few cars get more "thumbs up" from admirers young and old.Like most 1960s/1970s cars...today's ethanol gas is tolerated pretty well - but it's not what the engineers had in mind - so a bit of rough idling and warm-up time are just facts of life with this vintage...but it is truly impressive on the open road.A lot has been invested to make the car enjoyable to drive but expect some minor details that are unfinished such as...the original radio is gone the wipers are inoperative (although the vacuum-operated access door is working) directionals do not work (though tail-lights brake lights and headlamp open/close & hi/low beams are all fine) and the internal gauges were all disconnected in favor of the "heads-up" panel of gauges that nest beneath the LT-1 hood.2562 TRANSACTIONS WITH HAPPY PEOPLE! As of the date of this listing we've had 2562 transactions (both buying and selling) on eBay without a single complaint. One of the keys to our selling success is the use of LARGER and MORE images than you will likely see in ANY other eBay listing...so you can CLEARLY see what you are getting. QUESTIONS? Please call Jim Murphy at 706-429-7924 if you have any questions that this description or the pictures at right do not answer for you. COLLECTIBLE INVESTMENT POTENTIAL...the 3rd Generation Corvettes (1968-1982) ushered in new styling themes for the car that have continued through ALL subsequent generations...right up to today's 2015 model. It could easily be argued that the that the 3rd generation was the most influential body of ALL the Corvette generations. Based on the shockingly futuristic Mako Shark II concept car of 1965 the 1968 Corvette was an amazing leap forward in sports car design philosophy.
The 1972 model year is arguably "the one to have" because it was the last year to feature the classic chrome bumpers...and the last year to escape the clumsy new front (1973-on) and rear (1974-on) Federal bumper mandates.
BACK ON EARTH...WHAT DID AMERICA'S FIRST ASTRONAUT IN SPACE DO FOR EXCITEMENT? HE DROVE A 1972 CORVETTE OF COURSE...
Finally further cementing the 1972 model's desirability and iconic history...long-time Corvette enthusiast Alan Shepard (the FIRST American astronaut in space) was invited by GM Chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov to drive pre-production Corvette's. A short time later GM executives gave him a 1972 Corvette Convertible...which is now on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex!
