This is a cool old truck, nd has asolid body for an un-restored 1944.It is nearly rust free. This is appears to be a rare WWII era blackout special vehicle. In WWII chromium was considered to be a strategic material, o the government instructed the car companies to stop using chrome and stainless steel finishes on the few cars that were being made. The grille and front trim on this coe were painted when I got it but I stripped it to see what the grille would look like. The metal on the grille, rim, nd headlight rings does not appear to have the same finish as they normally had, hich is consistent with the blackout models. If you look at old rigs for sale anywhere, t's hard to find a '44 model anywhere. From 1942-1945 the government made the car companies stop normal production of consumer vehicles, o they could focus on war vehicles and airplanes. I don't know the history of this truck, ut it most likely had to be a military vehicle when it was built. This would be cool to restore as a military rig, r do it as a custom project. These COE's look great restored to original, ut also make nice rod projects. There are a lot of creative ways people have restored these trucks. They put flatbeds, amp bodies, ollbacks, ampers, nd pickup boxes on them. Regular 8-9' stepside boxes from the era look great. I've seen custom crew cabs built out of these, nd suburbans/panels too. I have some experience shipping vehicles and can help with that process. If you want to do something early on the truck, mail or send your number and I can call. Many pics are at the end of the listing just to give you an idea of how this could be fixed up. Thanks and happy bidding.
MECHANICAL
This truck most likely has the original flathead six. It is non-running, nd the cylinder head is gone. It has a manual transmission. The truck rolls and steers. I'm sure it needs the wiring redone but a new painless or painless type kit is cheap. The other rear wheel/tire is included if you want it.
BODY
This truck is nearly rust free. It has two small spots, hich are easy sheetmetal repairs. The bottom exterior edge of the drivers door has rust. This is the outside skin, ot the bottom of the door. The rear low skin of the cab also has a small spot of rust. This is minor also. The cab has a "notch" in the bottom rear edge of the cab that can also be fixed with the same piece when the rust is fixed. There was probably somesort of machinery mounted on this at some time so they notched the cab. There is no other rust. The truck has some dents that need to be ironed out. Nothing major, ut will require somehammer/dolly time. Doors open and shut. The latch is gone off of the passenger door but I'll tie it shut. Grille is perfect. All glass is flat and easy to replace.
INTERIOR
The interior is original. The seat needs redone obviously. Gauges and dash look original.Nothing lookscut.Floors under the seat springs are solid also.
OVERALL
These COE trucks get tons of attention at the car shows. There are many online pics to see how they are fixed up and get ideas for your truck. Below are many other coe's so you can see the potential. This truck is old, sed, nd sold as-is. It needs full restoration. Thanks, nd happy bidding.
