Description

Perhaps you noticed that big old pickups are suddenly very popular. Trucks like this 1972 Ford F-250 Camper Special are not only unusual, ut they're useful as well. Combined with a long list of options and very nicely finished, his Ford is the brute force way to experience the great outdoors. It really is almost too pretty to risk beating up in the dirt, ut that's what this F250 lives to do. The paint was done last year the way the factory would have, sing a two-tone green combination that looks great and is probably perfect for the great outdoors. With an 8-foot bed, hat's A LOT of sheetmetal to straighten and smooth, o it probably took a small army of guys to get it looking this good and about ten gallons of paint. None of that matters to you, f course, ecause what you're buying is merely a super nice truck that's turn-key and ready to enjoy without any additional fussing. The doors fit well, he chrome and trim was all reinstalled after the paint was dry, nd bed is solid but not perfect, hich means that filling it with lumber for your next big project won't hurt it a bit. Accessories include handsome wooden stake sides, heavy-duty rear bumper, cool storage compartment built into the bed, nd those side mirrors that offer a comprehensive view behind if you're towing a trailer (which is ostensibly what this Camper Special was designed to do). Trucks have come a long way since the 1970s, ut there's a certain appeal to the no-nonsense interior of this F250. The bench seat is wrapped in tough vinyl that's seemingly impervious to dirt and with short-nap green carpets on the floor, ou really don't have to worry about making a mess, ecause it's all so easy to clean. Some fake burled walnut trim warms up the interior and with the wood on the dash and the neatly grouped instruments, ou'd almost think that the guys over at Mercury were in charge of the F250's interior design. This one was obviously built for luxurious camping, owever, s it offers factory A/C that's still fully functional, s well as an automatic transmission, ower steering, nd a Philco AM radio in the dash that works as it should. Who takes care of trucks like this? The 390 cubic inch V8 is very original and wonderfully well preserved. The block and heads are still wearing traces of factory-applied Ford Blue paint and there's a giant air cleaner up top that looks like it should be on a locomotive. Power steering and brakes are really the only way a truck like this is even possible, nd underneath the hardware is all heavy-duty for no worries in the rough stuff. There's an original-style single exhaust system that makes the Ford quiet and while the chassis isn't spotless, t's pretty darned solid and shows off a good life up in the Pacific Northwest. The suspension was augmented for heavier loads and towing a camper, ut ride quality isn't horrible and on those big Michelin truck tires, t handles pretty well.Coming from single family ownership until 2014, hen it was used as a chase vehicle for a hot air balloon company, his is a neat truck with an interesting history and still plenty willing to work for a living.
