There were no ragtops Shelbys available until the 1968 model year. This 1967 Shelby Convertible GT500 Tribute shows “what could have been.” It carries practically every detail that made the real Shelby such an outstanding marriage of high style and sheer big block performance. All the proper body pieces are in place: the unique front end treatment with its twin scoop / louvered fiberglass hood; early 1967-style twin inboard driving lamps (quickly banned by California which forced Shelby to relocate them to the outer edge of the grill in late 1967 production runs); fiberglass headlamp shrouds; body side lower scoops; fiberglass rear valence with full width spoiler and Thunderbird sequential tail lights. Nightmist blue metallic paint with white LeMans body stripes, proper Shelby GT500 badging and sill stripes; 15-inch 10-spoke aluminum wheels with B.F. Goodrich T/A radials; dual exhaust and a power convertible top complete the exterior transformation. The same approach was taken inside, where the deluxe black interior is fitted with a Shelby steering wheel and roll bar, full gauges, Cobra emblems and a Classic Autosound AM/FM stereo with hidden iPod connector, amp and 4 speakers. a Ford FE 428 CI big block engine with an Edelbrock performer RPM camshaft, Holly 650 cfm 4 barrel carburetor and Hooker Super Comp long tube headers – all mated to a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission -- and offering front disc brakes, this is a well-executed Shelby GT500 Tribute.
