Description
Well, hat you are looking at here today is truly a piece of Jaguar history. It is a 1985 Jaguar/Daimler DS420 Limousine. A fully US spec car from it's birth. In fact the only Daimler DS420 ever sold in the USA through Jaguar of North America official channels. The back story, s sometimes happens, s as interesting as the car itself. In 1984 while Jaguar was run by Sir John Egan, hey wanted to see if there might be a market in the US for the Daimler DS420 limousine. This Limo had been built by Jaguar from 1968-1992 but had never been officially sold in the US. Since Jaguar was selling the Jaguar XJ6 in the US, hey already had a US spec fuel injected engine that met EPA standards, o they built 2 test cars and gave them to of all people, arey Limo service in New York to do a market test. Most of Carey's drivers were too fat to comfortably fit in the front driver's compartment so they hated the DS420 from the start and I believe did everything they could to destroy the cars and sabotage the test. Well after 6 months or so and a couple blown engines Carey said they didn't think these DS420s would work for US Limousine companies. Well, f course they didn't..They were never made for this sort of abuse but were designed for sophisticated owners (mayors, arliament members, oyalty, tc) where the cars had some love and maintenance. So Jaguar took back the 2 test Limos. One went back to UK and was disassembled and second one was passed around and later had a 350 Chevy V8 put in it. (This navy blue car was sold at Amelia Island auction a few years ago for $65,000+). Anyway, lso in 1984 Mrs W and her mother(I cannot say their surname as I signed that I wouldn't when I bought this car, ut suffice it to say Mrs W and here husband own one of the largest retail chain of stores in the USA). Anyway, rs W and her mother went to England and they saw Queen Elizabeth and her mother in one of these Daimler DS420 limousines so when they got back to the US, rs W had their attorney contact Jaguar Cars of North America in Leoni, NJ and ask to purchase a loaded DS420 Limo for his client. Jaguar politely told him that the DS420 was not offered in the US at this time. Shortly after this Jaguar recontacted the attorney and said that they could indeed build a US spec car for his wealthy client. So this particular car was ordered and built. When looking at the pictures you might notice the MGB tail lamps, he flush mounted XJS door handles, he double rear bumper, nd the rear facing (London taxi style) jumpseats. These are all part of the homologation process where Jaguar used off the shelf parts where they could. This particular car is in striking condion. It has just over 40,000 miles (I have put about 15k on it while I have owned it). The dual AC blows Ice cold, t runs and drives perfectley (much like a big XJ6 but this limo has the much stronger GM turbo 400 trans). I love these DS420s and have several others, ut they do take up some room. (18foot 10 in length) so I have decided to pass this one on to someone else. I do not scrimp on my cars and you will find this car in drive away condition capable of getting anywhere. It was featured at the Hilton Head concourse in fall of 2014 along with another DS420 I have with royal pedigree. It has a full set of Proper waterford crystal in it's cocktail cabinet. There is really nothing left in the World with as much subtle class and understated elegance as these hand built classics. Please do NOT confuse this car with the rusted out old, arburetored funeral home cars that sometimes pop up on ebay. This is a proper car with full interior curtains and every option.. It is truly un replacable. All of the story told here can be corroborated by the most knowledgeable man on the planet on these cars. Mr Hendrik whose website myds420.inf, from Holland is by far the most complete website on any one model car ever. (over 5000 pages) . If you are a truly serious Jaguar guy, on't lose this car... Thanks for your patience (I do get alittle excited over these). Thanks, ob Boston
