Description
This is a vintage 1964 Lincoln Continental 4 door Convertible. one of only 3. 28 produced that year. This car was purchased by the previous owner in 1980. The day she bought it. she drove it into a garage. nbsp;turned the engine off and never started it again until she sold it to me. Car sat 35 years untouched in a heated. dry cinderblock garage. It was covered in dust when I brought it to my house last year. I have invested thousands of dollars in this car since then to get it running and driveable. What I have done thus far: ENGINE: rebuilt the original Carter carburetor. New coil. distributor cap and rotor. New points and condenser. New fuel pump and fuel lines. Removed. resealed. pressure tested radiator. New water pump. NOS dual exhaust system including mufflers and resonators (straight pipes from engine are okay). New battery. BRAKES: New master cylinder. All new wheel cylinders. New brake lines where needed. I just put 4 new Cooper radial white wall tires on the car. I eventually got the car started and running. Had it running for awhile. drove it around a parking lot. so the transmission seems to work - shifts into reverse and drive okay. Car was running pretty smooth for awhile. but then developed a bit of a miss. I pulled the valve covers off the motor and saw that several push rod tubes are bent. My mechanic thinks the motor probably needs a valve job. No surprise for an engine that sat not running for 35 years. Given the damage to the push rods and probably the lifters. car is now not running. It will crank though. Body on the car is okay. I don't see any major rust. Paint is not great. but does shine with some compounding. There are cracks in the paint in spots. and paint has chipped off in a few areas. where it was clearly not prepped correctly. It appears that the car is pretty straight. no evidence of any major damage due to an accident. Chrome is okay. Some of it it really nice. other parts are pitted a bit. All chrome looks rechromeable. Interior looks all original to me and is in pretty nice condition. No rips in leather seats. Leather is crackled in spots with age. but its a nice look. Dash in great condition. These cars are apparently known for their complicated electrical systems. The windows didn't work when I got the car. But a friend of mine took the window switches apart and cleaned them. Now most of them work. The convertible top canvas had just been replaced in 1980. After washing all the dust off the car. and cleaning it. the canvas top still looks new. Top does work. however. does not go all the way into the open trunk. I am positive the relays need to be cleaned and it would work fine. I have a bunch of documentation on the convertible top and how it operates as well as sources for parts. So why am I selling it? I don't have the time now to continue on this journey. I've been spending many long weekends trying to get this car on the road and it is just taking too long. I recently moved into a new job. and Im needing to focus on that now. I don't want to let this car sit in my garage for another 35 years! Yes. this car needs work. but you could get this car running and drivable for not too much more money at this point (a machinist quoted me about $600 to redo the heads if I pulled them off myself). Then continue to fix it as you drive it. I have the Shop Manual as well as a manual for the convertible top - both included with car. Everyone who sees this car is BLOWN AWAY by its looks. Bottom line: these cars are becoming more rare and more sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. Fully restored. I see these cars going for over $50. 00. This car has HUGE potential. If you are looking for a project. that is all there. where a lot of work has already been done for you. and is a solid investment. you just found it. I am hoping to sell it to someone who can take the car to the next level and get it on the road! Summer is almost here! NOTE: CAR IS SOLD AS IS. NO RETURNS. I have described the car to the best of my ability. If you have any questions. please email me. Thank you.
