Description

Here it is; The most accurate tool room copy of one of the most historically significant post war Mercedes Benz ever built. The very first prototype 300SL Gullwing W194 Serial # 0001/52(a) The original was scrapped by the factory. This is a currently unfinished running and driving chassis that includes a1:1 wood body buck to build the body. This chassis won 2nd place at the 2015 Santa Fe Concourso. It was built using numerous scale drawings and photographs from the archives at Mercedes Benz in Germany.

The engine block is a correct M188 high compression 300S wet sump engine exactly as the factorymodified forthe very first 300SL in March of 1952. All the components are either prewar, 186, 187, 188 or built specifically for this race car as was done by the factory in 1951 and 52. There arevery fewGullwing parts on this car and whatis there aregenuine W194 part numbers. Everything elseis what Mercedes took from their inventory in 1952 and modified for this car. This is only one of two high door chassis in existence; It differs significantly from the other 300SL W194 chassis; the other being chassis # 2 which has been recently restored by the factory. The doors open at the bottom of the window rather than at the waistline of the car as with the production Gullwing. I would like to sell the car and finish it for a discerning customer who wants a unique collector 300SL that provides the excitement of a racing 300SL that before has never been available to the public. You could drive and own a 300SL race car that only a handful of people have ever experienced. Built by Passarelli Restorations utilizing the same fabrication skills and historical techniques, rawings and technical expertise used by MB in 1952.Experiencefrom 20+ 300SL Gullwing Concours level restorations helped reverse engineer this exact copy that drives as well as it looks.
