Description

Up for sale is my very nice numbers matching 1971 Mercedes Benz 280SL. This is a three owner car originally from Alabama where it spent most of its life. It was traded as part of a business deal in 2009 and went to Arizona however the new owner fell ill so I acquired the car in March of 2012.

This car is a show winner having been recently judged by Mr. Terry Kiwala National Club President of MBCA (Mercedes Benz Club of America) at the European Classics East Concours . The car as you enthusiasts are aware is one of only 840 built in this final and most collectable year of the pagoda body style. A quickly appreciating vehicle that is still on the rise. Many experts agree that the car will continue to rise in value for many years. to come.

The car runs and drives well shifting through the automatic gears with ease. Starts right up with the engine pulling as it should. I had a full valve job done last year with attention to the rockers adjusters and new piston rings and valve guides. I have also had quite bit of mechanical work done to bring the car to where it is today. (see the list below)

This car is presented in rare white exterior with black interior. The car has had a repaint 7 years ago and is marred by some very minor blemishes. The very few did not come out in the pictures but you see one of them in the photos by the front passenger headlight (notice original factory notches). This is a paint blemish not a dent and only visible in the sunlight at a certain angle. The body is mostly rust free with all original body panels and welds. There is a small bubbling at the rear wheel arch however it is not spongy rather it is quit solid which could be cleaned up easily. The only other rust on the car is a small whole in the front engine compartment by the firewall. The estimate I got is $1500 to repair including painting the engine bay.

The interior was also redone 7 years ago and is very clean and appears to have the original German loop carpeting (I believe but is unverified). Original Becker radio (not working) and clock (not working). This is an air conditioned car but the condenser was pulled before I bought the car however I do have it and can be rebuilt or replaced.

Items repaired or replaced:

New Brake Booster Master Cylinder all hoses new rotors and wheel bearings wheel seals front + rear Axel boots.

Engine Transmission and Differential mounts replaced
