Sorry this had to be re-listed. An irresponsible eBayer used "buy it now" and then rescinded it within 3 minutes because he thought it included delivery to North Carolina. I changed the new listing to 3 days since many of you wanted to finalize it this weekend. I apologize for this.....Again, Please read the entire description before bidding on this as I have done my best to describe everything about this vehicle…..
This is a No Reserve Auction. As soon as there is one bid the vehicle will sell. If you do not have the necessary funds please do not waste your time or mine. eBay is only as good as the weakest link/user. If you look at my rating you know I am very willing to hold up my end of the deal and make every effort to make things go smoothly. All I ask is that you have the same goals and attitude.
1993 Mercury Capri XR2 (What the Mazda Miata [mx5 mx-5] should have been but wasn't)
This vehicle was built as a joint venture between Ford Motor Company and Mazda and was sold in the United States in model years 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994.
It was also sold as the Ford Capri in other countries (specifically Australia and parts of Europe)
I am not a mechanic so it is pointless for me to try to explain all of the subtle similarities and differences between the Miata and Capri so if you are serious about this vehicle and want to know more I will let you do your own due diligence and research so that I am not swaying you toward why to buy a Capri over the Miata.
The motor is a Mazda 1.6L similar to the first generation Miata's. The XR2 model came with a factory turbo (and in my opinion much needed spoiler)
This vehicle is front wheel drive versus the rear drive Miata which makes it more desirable to many people (especially in bad weather areas or young drivers will be driving it)
********************************************************************************************************************************This particular car I have only owned for a few months and honestly only had it because I already own a 1992 and took pity on someone who was short on money.
I was purchasing another item from Craigslist at the owners home and saw this Capri sitting in their driveway. The owner was desperate for money to pay for medical bills and as much as I would like to say I bought the car off of him because I have a big heart for people the truth is I have a bigger heart for cars and this cute little convertible needed someone to own it that would give it the love it deserved.
Since then my son and I have gone through and changed the oil, buffed the paint, replaced the front brakes, replaced the stereo and a handful of other small repairs that are hardly worth mentioning. Now that the car has it's self esteem back and Summer is here it is ready to find it's next owner rather than watching us jump in our 1992 and head to the beach.
As much as I would love to keep both the driveway is only so big and my wife (and 16 year old daughter who is shopping for an SUV) have given me an ultimatum so I have no choice but to part with a couple cars and this is one of them.
I would be happy to answer any questions and/or take any pictures you would like just please feel free to ask. I will include a CARFAX report at the end of this description which basically only shows it was always a California car, It has very few miles over the past 8 years, and it would like a new home.
The car starts right up....even if you let it sit for a 2-3 weeks.Turbo seems to spin up properlyTransmission shifts properlyBrakes are good (and will likely be better once it is driven more regularly)Tires have less than 500 miles on themThe drivers side window does not go down but I believe it is just the switch because the switch will not move the passenger side either yet if you use the passenger switch it works fine. The convertible top should be replaced in my opinion but if only driving on warm days and storing it indoors perhaps not a concern right away. The trunk latch is not attached to the car. All of the parts on the lid are there so you would need the bottom piece for it to latch.Other than that it has bumps and bruises and stains as you would expect from a car that is now 23 years old but for the price if it goes for less than $3000 I think it is a steal.
First $500 must be received within 48 hours of auction ending. Balance within 7 days of Auction end.
I am also including pictures of some aftermarket wheels I purchased to put on my 1992 that were from a Miata but I never did. The fronts would bolt right on but you would need spacers for the rear to clear the struts (my mechanic estimated 1/2 inch should be sufficient but he would go 1" for handling) If you would like these wheels as well they would be an extra $500 on top of the purchase price of the vehicle. The auction amount DOES NOT INCLUDE THE EXTRA WHEELS.
Willing to help in any way to get this "cousin" of our 92 to a good home so please let me know how I can help. I would be willing to deliver it anywhere in the US or Canada for $1.00 per mile providing everything was paid up front (I am helpful not stupid).
Happy bidding!!!

Failed Emissions InspectionThe emissions check performed during a vehicle inspection indicated the vehicle was emitting more than allowable emissions standards and/or had missing or modified parts. Repeated failed emissions records can indicate engine problems and CARFAX recommends you have the vehicle inspected.First OwnerWhen the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.Ford or Lincoln Mercury RecallThe Ford Motor Company provides Carfax with Field Service Action and recall information regarding safety, compliance and emissions programs announced since 2000 for a specific vehicle. For complete information regarding programs or concerns about this vehicle, please contact a localFord or Lincoln Mercury Dealer.Gross PolluterA Gross Polluter is a vehicle that fails an emissions inspection with below-standard scores. These vehicles can pollute as much as 18 times more than a vehicle that passes an emissions inspection. It is illegal to drive or sell a gross polluting vehicle in California, and it cannot be registered with the DMV. CARFAX recommends checking the latest Vehicle Inspection Report to confirm the proper repairs have been completed before purchasing.New Owner ReportedWhen a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.Ownership HistoryCARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1991 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history.Title IssuedA state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership. |
