Description

Up for bid is my 1955 Oldsmobile 98 “Holiday”. It’s a four door hard top powered by a 324 Oldsmobile Rocket engine. The transmission is 4-speed Hydromatic. This car came from the factory with many options: power steering, ower brakes, ower windows, onderbar AM radio, ower antenna, ower seat, nd an Autronic Eye. The car was built with pride at the Boxwood (Wilmington), elaware GM plant.

The car has a decent paint job on it but it’s not show quality. The bumpers would need to be re-chromed. The body is in decent shape with minor rust in some spots. The trunk floor has surface rust and a hole in it. At some point the driver’s floor was rusted out but it had an amateur repair. The spare tire well has also been replaced but it’s an amateur repair as well. The windshield and rear window are in good shape. The side windows have some delamination and the passenger side front window has a crack. All of the exterior lighting works.

Inside you’ll find that the interior needs to be redone. The dash pad cover is in good shape but the foam under it is hard. The speedometer doesn’t work but all of the other gauges work and the dash lights work. The odometer reads 68,520. When I bought the car I was told this was the original mileage. Because the speedometer doesn’t work the true mileage is unknown but I was told the car didn’t move much after the speedometer broke. The clock and radio don’t work. The power antenna was snapped off at some point but you can hear that the power antenna motor works. The window motors work but they need a little help by pulling the windows up by hand. The steering wheel is in ok shape but it does have some cracking. I’m not sure if the power seats work; it has been disconnected since I’ve owned the car.

The engine runs but it hesitates on acceleration and smokes a little. The front main seal leaks oil. As far as I can tell the engine has never been rebuilt. The heater core and heater control were bypassed before I bought the car. I’m not sure what type of condition they’re in.

This is the list of items that have been repaired or replaced:

The gas tank was repaired and resealed by Moyer Tank Renu and a new tank sender was installed.

The carb (Rochester 4gc) was rebuilt by Carburetor USA (Collingswood, J).

The exhaust was replaced from the manifold back (Midway Muffler, lsmere, E).

The master cylinder and power steering pumps were rebuilt by Fusick.

All of the brake lines and wheel cylinders were replaced.

All of the fuel lines were replaced.

An electric wiper motor was installed (from New Port Engineering).

A Pertronix Ignition was installed and the spark plugs and plug wires were replaced.

The radiator was replaced (Cool Craft Components).

The fuel pump was replaced.

I have a box a trim and interior parts. The car has radial tires on it so I took the original hubcaps off. The car has a clear Delaware title and is inspected until 2017. The black and white tag is not included in the sale. I’ve tried to represent the car as best as I could in the description and the pictures but I recommend you come see the car in person. The car is sold as is with no warranty. The buyer is responsible for shipping. I live close to I-95, -295, -495 and Delaware SR141. Thank you for checking out my auction!
