Description

1949 HUDSON COMMODORE SIX CONVERTIBLE BROUGHAM

HISTORY

The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable, ell engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was to be forever changed on December 7th, 947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It’s Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. Production had actually begun on October 12th. The tremendous factory conversion effort took only 23 days. Hudson spent $16,000,000 for development and new production equipment. The new car was revolutionary in that virtually no parts interchanged with the 1947 models, xcept the eight cylinder engine, hich was essentially the same. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom, ue to the floorpans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. While the 1941 Nash 600 had been the first production unibody car, he new Hudson was significantly more rugged in construction and offered a sleek new design that was way ahead of the competition. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was of welded all steel construction. The cars were available in Super and Commodore trim levels with either a Six or Eight cylinder engine. Convertible production did not commence until late in the 1948 model year.

The 1949 Commodore Six Convertible Brougham featured in this auction was purchased and restored by one of the foremost Hudson parts vendors. I am listing this car for his widow. It was originally a Kansas car. The restoration was completed in 1992. The mileage was reset to zero at that time. The current mileage is 06821. It still has the matching number 262 engine. This car is loaded with every conceivable option. This includes standard shift with Overdrive, 4 5/9 rear axle, adio and Heater, ower Windows and Top, ower Gascap, as door guard, ual Spotlights, og lights, everse lights, irectional signals, indshield visor and traffic light finder, reezies, door handle guards, oor edge guards,Deluxe bumper guards, ront and rear, hrome wire wheels with wide whitewall bias ply Collector car tires, emote spare tire filler, indshield washers, hrome exhaust deflector and a Hudson script Kleenex dispenser.

CONDITION

This car is a very nicely preserved restored car that will drive to any destination. You could start driving this car every day. It runs and drives nicely and has a cruising speed of 60-65 MPH. The paint, hrome and interior were restored in 1992, ut have held up beautifully! Many NOS parts were utilized in the restoration. The Woodgrained panels, teering wheel and Chrome are in near new condition! The interior was restored in Leatherette instead of real Topgrain Leather as it was originally. The paint and body have held up well, lthough a paint touchup and detailing would buy this car a lot! There is a small crack in the driver’s side windshield depicted in one of the photos. A spare tire and jack still reside in the trunk. All of the lights and Gauges work. The Clock and Radio work nicely. I checked everything and could find nothing that does not operate, xcept the passenger side door power window. A replacement window cylinder is included in case that is the problem. It may be a broken wire or bad connection. There is also a fit issue with the passenger side Quarter window and the top shown in one of the photos. Some spares in the trunk are included. I have driven this car and it has a whisper Quiet, atching number, ood Running 262. It really runs Strong! It is currently Licensed, nsured and on the road.
