To help defray shipping expenses, am willing to deliver the Packard to a dock, hipping agent, r a holding area after the funds have been transferred, tc. I am in Northern California so the nearest docks are San Francisco or Oakland.
NOTE: Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of auction closing and a $500 deposit paid via PayPal.
I purchased the Packard in 2008 from a private collection in Oroville, alifornia. The history that was conveyed to me was that the car was purchased new in San Luis Obispo, alifornia and was driven as daily transport until approximately 1979 when the original owner passed away and the car was put in storage. The person from whom I purchased the Packard purchased it from the estate in 2000.
Before I purchased the car, t had most of the suspension replaced, ew tires installed, nd the engine had undergone a rebuild. The crankshaft main and rod bearings are .010 undersized, he starter had been rebuilt but the car still needed major work before it could be reliably driven.
After a thorough inspection, removed the rotten interior, ebuilt the seat frames and had a full upholstery set installed along with new carpet and headliner. I am a collector/restorer of WW2 military vehicles, ence I painted the Packard military green. The original glove box door-mounted clock works fine as do all of the instruments and the speedometer.
The following mechanical work was completed:
- Removed and re-cored the original radiator.
- Rebuilt the clutch pressure plate and clutch disc.
- Resurfaced the flywheel.
- Rebuilt the generator.
Installed the following:
- Full replacement exhaust system.
- Full set of brake wheel cylinders and a master cylinder using DOT 5 silicone brake fluid.
- New original type wiring harness (which was included in the sale).
- New front and rear hub and axle seals and the wheel bearings were grease-packed.
- New original style regulator along with assorted hoses, elts, lips etc.
- New ignition parts along with an NOS carburetor.
- Installed an 8 volt battery and adjusted the regulator to suit
Additional details:
- The car is free from rust or panel damage. Vehicle has light surface rust on underside and is in original condition.
- All the stainless steel strips are installed and in good condition except the right running board strip, hich is damaged but still attached.
- The front grill is in need of reconditioning as the chrome is in poor condition but no damage.
- All glass in the car is original to the car. I had to get the rear window resealed and I supplied a new Steele brand rubber when the glass was reinstalled.
- During its life, he car has had front floor work performed, ossibly as the result of a prior battery issue and will need further work on the battery frame.
- Artwork on trunk painted by a well-known war bird nose art artist, on Ricci.
- Interior areas of car still bear the original factory finish, lbeit worn.
- Hood opening latch (left side) is cracked.
Still to be done:
- The door window felts are in poor condition and will need to be replaced, owever, he car has no wind noise when driven so this is not an immediate concern.
- The rubber coating on the running boards is lifting and is missing in several places.
- The door entry kick plates were damaged during removal by the prior owner and will need work to make them useable.
- Needs a rear quarter vent latch as the original was broken off by my three year old niece.
- Needs a left-front quarter vent latch.
- Missing front and rear ash trays.
- Window winder handles are original but the knobs are either missing or damaged.
