Here it is! First time available for sale in 47 years.
1965 Pontiac GTO Tripower 4 Speed ConvertibleThe absolute pinnacle of GTO rarity.
Try to find another survivor tripower 4 speed convertible...does not happen, ver!
I bought the car some time ago from the original owners son, ho was selling the car as part of a estate. On a tip, flew to New York in great haste to see this 49k mile survivor, had to have it, t any cost. With a suitcase full of cash, got to the car, iding in a barn, ith a cover on it. After inspecting the car long and hard, ith PHS in hand and years of Pontiac experience with me, had to have it. The car was only driven 47,800 miles in forty eight years. It had just come back from the Pontiac dealership where they had went over every inch of the car mechanically, t the cost of $5200. I found a almost completely original 65 tripower convertible! Only a few things had been touched over the years. First, he car was repainted about 15 years ago, nd aside from a minor scratch, till shows exceptionally well. No bondo, erfect floors and trunk, xcellent pinchwelds and just a very dry car all around. Completely original interior, mean completely, asically shows as close to new as possible for being 50 years old. The top, hile original to the car, nd having only one blemish, ad a cloudy rear window, hich i replaced ( the rear window). The top is power and works fine, ll lights, ignals, ct. work great. I drove the car 800 miles home with the top down and the AM radio cackling all the way home. No issues whatsoever. The only things not original to the car I found was the distributor and coil were swapped out sometime during the 1980's. aside from that only maintenance items were changed.
I got the car back, nd after pacing back and forth thinking about the nylon coated timing gear and the inherent failure of it, nd pieces of it falling into the oil pan, nd clogging the oil pump, decided to replace the timing chain with a steel one, hich I did. Also, hile I was at it, took to original heads off the car in favor of a set of #16's with hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel. The originals are oiled and bagged. The carbs are original to the car.
The car runs and drives great, erfect undercarriage, nd is a real deal car.
The car was built February 16, 965The engine WS code, 60hp, orn with motor .was cast January 15th, 965.
