Description

Yeah, nbsp;this is the same LeMans Sport Coupe automobile that Pontiac allowed a contractor to convert into Pontiac Can Ams in 1977.....this one comes without the Can Am price. This was the last year of the full-sized Lemans. No, his is not the Lemans used in "Smokey and the Bandit" movie. That one was the 4-door Lemans. Most of the car is the same except for the fast back roof. I watch the movie for all the Lemans, ther people for the Firebird :-)
Why am I selling?
  • I'm retiring, eaving the country, nd it's time to pass the baton.
  • Can't take all my cars, ust the most important one that I've owned 35 years (67 Firebird)

Highlights:
  • NO engine or tranny oil leaks. None
  • The odometer reads 29,000 which I interpret as 129,000.
  • No, he hood spear (as seen in the picture) is not correct; however, have the receipt from the Pontiac dealer that installed it in 1977 when it was delivered to the first owner.
  • This has been my daily driver for the past 8 years with unlimited thumbs up every time I hit the streets. Adult-driven its whole life. Never let my teenage son near it! (He had his own 430 powered '67 Buick Rivera).
  • This is not a trailer queen, lse the pics would show an over-restored car like so many Firebirds and GTOs out there and the price would be $25,000. This is just an above-average survivor with one re-paint. You will never be upside down with this car or be afraid to drive it.
  • Keep in mind this is a light 3,800 pound car with a giant motor (used in Blue Bird school buses, oo). It has sure-gripping brakes that want to eject you out the windshield. (seatbelts are included!). Not for amateurs. Never drink and drive with this car. It requires 100% of your undivided attention. 110 MPH in this car is NOT like 110MPH in your family Acura/Lexus/Infinity. It roars and floats the whole time at 3,300 RPM - but hey, his is the most fun you can have at 12 miles per gallon!!!
  • The Big Block Chevy 454 is tight. No oil burn between oil changes. Rebuilt around 2005 to stock. Just bored 0.030 over with stock cam. Does have an Edelbrock high rise intake with Edelbrock carb to top it off. Horsepower more than sufficient.

I am a 20-year member of POCI and I bought this car near Atlanta in 2007 from the original owner who kept it in his garage since 1977. I drove it to Miami, LA (still garage kept) and then I trucked it to Texas with me in 2014 (50% of the time in garage)
  • This Sport Coupe is now nearly 40 years old and has the scars of a car of its age. Itisn'tperfect.....like I keep meaning to fix the in-dash tach that died on me last year.
  • Drives like a dream after I replaced all the coil springs on all four corners. Discs in front, rums in rear.
  • This is a Pontiac that came from a Chevy plant in Canada with a Chevy 305 motor. So it isn't a sin upgrading to Chevy 454 motor [bored 0.030] after the first owner's wife got done driving it after the first 25 years.
  • I upgraded to Turbo 400 tranny from turbo 350.
  • Guaranteed that your neighbors will call the cops on you as you tune the big block motor in your driveway on a Sunday.....they did to me.
  • Upgraded rear tires to 275-65-15 since anything smaller won't let the tires stick with that engine. Front tires are 235-70-15 and two years old. Rears are 7 years old.

I have continuously repaired this car over the past 8 years so this is a turn-key automobile. (remember: it was my daily driver) Here's where I think I have spent most of my $5,000 in repairs since I bought the car:
  • Freon R-134 conversion (a/c blows cold), our new coil springs (yes, orrect ones for 454 motor), ear shocks, ront brakes & hoses, teering center link, tock torque converter & flex plate, our tires, nbsp;starter motor, echanical fuel pump and hoses, eplaced Holley with Edelbrock 750 cfm carb (w/electric choke), nbsp;plugs/wires/entire HEI MSD distributor (June 2014), nbsp;upgraded engine cooling system (heavy duty water pump, eavy duty clutch fan, -row aluminum radiator), attery (April 2014), nbsp;resprayed ALL interior panels and seat backs and dash with SEM vinyl paint Firethorn Red, nbsp;upper radiator hose, nbsp;painted all four 15" Rally II wheels correct silver metallic for this Lemans, il changes every 6-8 months --- dinosaur oil, ot that synthetic stuff! New GM reproduction floor mats from Ames Performance, ome light, nd "Pontiac" emblems front and rear.

On my "To-do List"
  • Find NOS stripe kit....down the hood crease, acrossthe doors and then up and over the roof. Very similar to 1977 Firebird and Can Am stripe kit but not reproduced by Phoenix Graphix.
  • Fix pin-hole in upper third of aluminum radiator: runs 180/190 on the open road. Creeps to 230/250 at the stop lights in summer. I knowpinholenot allowing 16lbs pressure to build up in cooling system.
  • Find replacement radiator fan shroud on e-Bay. Mine is all cracked and held in place multiple creative ways. Ames Performance not yet selling reproduction of this part.
  • Fix in-dash stock tachometer (and clock while I'm at it). Just died a couple months ago.
  • Replace front in-dash speaker. Car still has stock am/fm radio for that 1970's crappy radio "ambiance"!
  • Fix rust bubbles starting to form around bottom of rear window and water starting to leak into trunk. No rust in trunk
  • Win the lottery so I can put a high-end, 20,000 paint job on the car.....like all the other crazy people in this hobby!!!
