Originally purchased at Brumos Pompano Florida on Dec 17, 1970. For sale is this 1971 Porsche 914 1.7-litre that's only had about four owners, had always been well maintained, and fortunately went into a barn storage over 12 years ago and is not license tagged at this time. I have three folders of all the maintenance records. The car did get an engine rebuild by the last owner (my master welder) who fixed on it for about 10 years, but he lost interest building a v8 944 race care and I was lucky to get it and work on it for last years. The car only has 86202 miles on it. Last owner said engine was rebuilt, but I don’t know exactly what it is and it was done right before he got it. I was also told new clutch and pressure plate, but don't have the evidence. Weber carb was rebuilt. I think it is a 32 DGV two barrel or something like that. Would have to look it up. Shifting is fine, although I can rush it and force a grind on 1st. All good otherwise. It also has newer heat exchangers and mufflers, distributor was updated to a 2.0 liter version to work best with the Weber carbs. I did all the tuning, checks, belts, valve adjustment, etc when the engine was out. The car starts very easily with a little Weber pumping, idles perfectly and has no pops or snaps. Also replaced the fuel line through the center tunnel. New battery.
The great
It's a Porsche 914 that hasn't been modified substantiallyfrom stock. All visible rust had been or was cut out and rewelded with 16 gauge steel or aftermarket stamped floor pans. Battery box looks great, don’t know if it was replaced or not, but no rust. Reinforcements welded over all the perimeter rocker panels and rear parts to reinforce anywhere there was an issue. Under painting is in very good shape. Color was maybe India Red.Upper paintwork is not bad at all, and I considered painting it, but have to sell now to fund daughter’s college. No more money or time into this one. Owner # 3 had it repainted so nowmaybe it's India Red or Guards red. Looks pretty good, but after a buffing, I can see where it needs better paint job. Very smooth. I could get it painted really great for a bit over$1000 plus supplies with my favorite Porsche painter, but I think this is better for the new owner. It has brand new tires. Rebuilt calipers, good master cylinder, new brake pads. Shifts just a bit sloppy even though I replaced many of the bushing parts. Carpets and interior are in pretty good shape and has been replaced in the last 25 years. All the lights work except the under bumper ones. Comes with lots of oldreceipts, bills, repair logs. Like the early 911s, the prices on these great cars are starting to rise and the typical listing runs between $9500 and $24000 depending on condition. This one could be right in the middle of that range with a little bit of updating and effort. Horn works.
The typical
It's a Porsche 914 that hasn't been modified substantially from stock. (except the additional steel to stiffen the frame). Doesn’t even have the normally added Porsche crest on the hood. Dash and vinyls have the standard small cracks where they all do. The floors are solid and have been rewelded anywhere there was an issue.
The minor stuff
Some new base coat and top exterior paint could make this really fabulous. All the rubber should be replaced and new owner gets to replace the trim or let me know and I will put the trim back on. Speedometer works, but the odometer recently quit. The left axle is making a clicking noise. I have a new Porsche axle, but the new owner can fix it (4 bolts). Needs the air hoses although I do have a few.I lack the time in pursuing this project any further. Great car for anybody who can drive a stick. The handbrake needs a spring as it doesn't catch. Doors need a bit of aligning as does the top, but all good. I even have an extra top that might go with it if the price is right.
This is a great fun little car that is now rock solid. I just can't keep it. $5000 reserve. Pretty low reserve for a driving car of this quality.
Needs to go on a transporter since I don't have it licensed or tagged. I can certainly help with getting it gone.
A few new pictures at the end of the pictures. Car is ready to go. Needs the brake spring. I can also provide a replacement speedometer and odometer. One Porsche replacement axle included. Can also include spare top with very small repairable hole if the right price is offered.
