Description

The 427 S/C Cobra is a legend of Motorsport representing the heyday of American Racing and the genesis of some of the greatest race cars that ever sported the Red the White and the Blue. Since it's creation in the early 60's many Replica manufactures have paid homage to this icon of American racing but only one has ever truly captured the brilliance of the original. In 1979 a 427 S/C owner named Peter Bayer had a dream of bringing this classic race car back to life and once again into the hands of drivers all around the world. By reverse engineering his own Shelby Cobra Bayer was able to craft the most exacting replica ever made true to spec and period-correct and thus the first Contemporary Classic was born. In the years that followed Contemporary Classic Cobra's became the gold standard of replication so much so that Bayer's beauties even succeeded in inciting Carroll Shelby and his legal teams all of whom tried in vain to stop Contemporary from producing its modern day classic. By the early 90's Contemporary Classics symbolized an affordable time-machine one that transported it's owners to a era when Carbs and straight pipes sounded just as good as rock and roll and race cars weren't just fast they were art in motion. Our CCX33653 embodies this legacy and features a few highly coveted upgrades that would even make Peter Bayer smile. The fiberglass body is painted a deep rich black with matte black side-pipes and authentic 15-inch Hallibrand knock-off rims. The chrome fittings serve to brighten this street serpent's menacing body style such as the chromed short roll-bar chrome over-riders and full chrome back bumper chrome Raydot mirror as well as chrome tonneau cover rivets. The combination of the midnight black and sparkling chrome is reminiscent of the original A/C Cobra's beauty a style that no amount of time could ever tarnish. The interior is also painstakingly authentic featuring an original Mota-Lita wood steering wheel with an A/C badge center cap Connolly leather hide from England and F.W Woolrich Wool two companies that furnished the original 427S/C's and are sadly no longer in existence. The shift linkage is a Huerst short throw and the dashboard is dressed with black-faced Smiths gauges complete with chrome roundings. Aesthetically Contemporary left no stone un-turned in its quest to recreate an original A/C Cobra but the powerplant is what transforms this vehicle into the monster that dominated the American racetracks of the early sixties. In all begins with the engine and this engine is special. Under the hood rests a 1965 Ford FE side-oiler the big block that Carroll Shelby salivated over in his dream to turn a 6-cylinder British roadster into a 8-cylinder Ferrari eater. The crank and rods are crafted from Le Mans forged steel the heads are Dove machined aluminium medium risers and the rockers Dove machined aluminum billet roller type. The carburator is a Holley 800 CFM double pumper as well as the fuel pump. The gearbox is also period correct featuring a Ford Top-loader with NASCAR Large Input and Output shafts (2:32 1st gear). The list goes on and on but at the end of the day what you have here is the most period-correct replication money can buy even the continuation models fall short of this level of attention to detail. Add to the fact that this CCX has received the coveted California SB 100 voucher and what you have is a Cobra that can go from showroom to the highway without the slightest fear of it not passing emissions. Built in 1991 and complete with every form of documentation even Canadian fans of this Cobra can rejoice as this car qualifies for import. There are few Contemporary Classics left in this world but their beauty and their brilliance will always inspire admirers and to some extent has ensured that Peter Bayer's vision of a modern classic has become a classic in its own right. There is no doubt that this CCX is an incredible piece of engineering wrapped up in nostalgia passion and the American dream.
