The time has come to let go of my fun little grocery getter that I have had for many years. It is very fun driving around on the windy roads and I have replaced many parts over the years and kept up with routine maintenance... however this is car does not come without some things that need to be addressed before it is a daily driver. I will make a list of the pros and cons for you and I will likely only consider selling it to someone with a decent mechanical aptitude. The reg is current and it just passed smog w/ flying colors.
1983 VW Scirocco
1.8l 8v engine 5 speed manual transmission
CONs:
-leaking tranny input seal... clutch is greasy and slips a bit, need to change seal and swap clutch.
-it vibrates. Always has, I have no idea why but I hear its sort of a VW thing. Could be cockeyed clutch plate?
-you can smell coolant inside so the heater core must be weeping. not a leak, just enough to smell...
-seats are pretty hammered. I have a spare set that could be upholstered while you drove with current seats. Drivers seat does not fold down.
-Dings and dents you would expect on an older car.
-some of the wiring could use some freshening up
-slight vibration on hard acceleration due to cheap CV shafts [solid], I have the better old ones[hollow] I took out ready to rebuild
-could use a more quiet muffler as it has an old flowmaster on it at the moment.
PROs:
-handles great and is a blast to drive!
-passes smog with flying colors and always surprises the techs at how good the #s are... very healthy motor
-somewhat rare and in good enough shape to turn heads and get compliments wherever it goes.
NEW:
Alternator, timing belt & tensioner, -adjusted valve clearance to spec, water pump, cap & rotor, plugs and wires, throttle cable, hood release cable, shifter bushings, front brake pads, tranny output seals,
RECENT:
All cooling hoses, rear brakes, intake and exhaust gaskets including donut, plenty of other things I am sure and may edit this as I remember.
Comes with some misc odds and ends including two bucket seats and the back seat bad if I can find that...
.... so like I said I think the right person that likes to fix things and needs a little old sporty car will love this. I am not in a hurry to sell this and will not respond to any lowballers so save both of our time. I understand what this is and what it isn't and will try my best to answer any and all serious inquires!
Should be towed unless you are only driving 50ish miles due to the leaking tranny and slipping clutch. Tranny needs to be serviced pronto!
