This is a 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Bus with a Clean CA Title! It just passed the very strict CA emissions test with flying colors! This van is in pretty good mechanical shape for it’s year and it’s ready to hit the road! The rear bench folds into a bed and you can take this camping ! It is really a unique van and drives just like a bus as it does not have a front end. This Van can easily be a daily driver or even a great camping mobile or a beach cruiser! The opportunity is endless! You can buy a one way flight ticket and drive this thing back to where ever you are from! The interior of the Van is in good shape. It does have carpet stains, and tears and rips here and there from being almost 30 years old. Nothing I would say needs immediate attention but it is in no way a show stopper either. It’s and old van with character! All the seats are there, all the windows and glass work. Most of the interior stuff it needs is just cosmetic. It has a Sony radio with auxiliary input for your ipod or phone.
The exterior of the van is in okay shape. The clear coat is pealing, the brown paint has seen better days. All the doors, windows and glass all work, open and close like they should. All the lights work. It does have dings and dents all over the place. I took pictures of the most obvious dings and dents. It just some surface rust here and there. Nothing that I don’t see why can be sanded down and painted if someone decides to restore it. To, me it’s and old van with character. This van turns heads and you see people always looking at you as drive!
Mechanically, the van seems like it’s in great shape! The brakes feel solid, the transmission shifts on point and on time without and issues. The engine does not shake, vibrate or make any weird noises. The previous owner said the engine has 60k miles on it as it was rebuilt. There is no way for me to verify it but the engine does feel healthy. The odometer does not work and is stuck at the current mileage. All other gauges work fine. The climate control buttons seem stuck and don’t work. This model does not have A/C. It didn’t come from the factory. It’s an old van, but it seems very solid and reliable. I would easily take this van on a cross country road trip. I would do the basics, like hoses and belts just to be safe and take it out without a problem. This van just passed the CA smog check without a problem, so you know the van is in pretty good mechanical shape!
This is a great van for anyone as it’s an automatic. The value on these vans are just going up as they are becoming more and more rare. The reserve on this van is very low. This van is perfect to use as a daily driver and a project for the weekend. I wanted to keep this van as a project but I have wayyy to many toys. I would highly recommend an inspection before the purchase as it is an old van and I might have forgotten something.
