Description

What a cool car! Very rare true automatic - with the original 1600 CC fuel injected motor. I recently obtained this 1971 VW Fastback from a family that started the restoration of it for their daughter. The vehicle started out as a rust free original fastback that was sitting in the back of a neighbors yard in sunny California(all signs point to original sheet metal. original pans. etc). They had inquired about purchasing the vehicle several times from the neighbor - who ultimately agreed to sell it to them. Their intentions were to the restore the vehicle - first step was to take care of the faded yellow/beige color. Although I do not have the paint/ body receipts. they advised me approx. $3. 00 was spent on the paint job. You won't doubt that for a second after seeing the vehicle - All of the windows were removed for the paint job. A brand new windshield was installed as well as new window rubbers all around. I have tried to photo it the best I could - you can really tell in person that a thorough nice quality job was done on the vehicle(not show quality but very nice). There are a few areas where there are runs on the interior of the vehicle but overall you will be very impressed with the paint especially given the color change to white. Also. all of the gaps are excellent on the car - no signs of any accidents - the doors. hood and trunk all open and close as they should. They had the original 1600 CC fuel injected motor tuned up and were then going to work on the interior - but then a change of plans. The daughter ended up going away to college instead of staying home - as a result she didn't need the vehicle. So the car sat for awhile until they decided to sell it. As with any old car the sitting isn't the best for it. The car starts right up. runs. drives and stops. The automatic transmission shifts great - the car also holds the road very well - brakes work just as they should. However. the car idles a little rough and is lacking a little power - could benefit from a valve adjustment. Also. there is a humming noise coming from the left rear at speeds above 30 mph - was informed that was most likely a rear bearing that will need replacement. A quick list of Pro's and Cons:Pros: - Rust free original body and pans with new nice quality paint- New rubber moldings all around including windows. trunk. hood. door handles. - New Chrome moldings and headlight covers. - New lights all around(headlights. parking lights. taillights) - Vintage Riviera alloy wheels with brand new performance tires. - Area under trunk and hood are nicely finished with correct VW mats. - Spare tire area appears to be brand new. - Handling of the car is very nice. solid and smooth. Cons: - Needs complete interior(except for dash which is new) - Runs rough(could use valve adjustment)- Humming noise from left rear(expected to be wheel bearing). - Front and rear bumpers are acceptable but do match the high quality of the rest of the exterior. - odometer not working - Windows work but are difficult to roll up and downThe vehicle is being offered with a very reasonable reserve. If you have any questions or would like photos of any part of the vehicle not shown. please let me know. I have a dealers license so for those in CA you will need to pay sales tax and registration fees in addition to the high bid amount. The car is currently registered and has a clean CA title. Thanks.
