Straight to you from California! Well, I drove it back a couple years ago and this has been my beloved car, a loyal daily driver and long haul trucker. I've since taken her to from Chicago to Alabama, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Cleveland, etc. Loud and strong!
Located in Chicago.
This has a 1.9L non-turbo diesel engine, more powerful than the original 1.6L (I affectionately call this my sports car).
I've used it for hauling lots of wood around town and for longer trips. I'll miss this gem but I have a van now for my larger needs.
So what's been done?
This has a 1.9L diesel engine which gives it way more pickup than the standard 1.6L. So this was definitely swapped at some point.
New front shocks ($600)
Two new Michelin Defender tires (in very good condition)
New battery last year(probably still under warranty)
New starter
New clutch cableTow ball on back for light loads
Not brand new but not a whole lot of rust since I bought El Cagreeno in Los Angeles. LA also probably explains why someone routed around the heater core (no heat currently). Brake vacuum pump is incorrect and not connected but I've driven this way since I bought it(soft brakes, also a bit weird lately). Light coating of oil on bottom of engine suggests a slight leak somewhere. Rear hubs a bit loose. Odometer not working. Left driver side wheel a bit further closer to fender than right one. Back door currently not latched but it's a five minute fix, just need to go to any hardware store. Has interesting features like battery disconnect switch, radiator fan switch, and a regular table fan (works!) installed on dash.
People will stare and ask questions as you roll around town or country. This car has a lot of character! Most common question: "What *is* that?"
On the front used to be a tow bar (pictured Roadmaster Stowmaster 5000, can be included for an extra cost), which cost me about $500 to install the brackets for. So if you want to flat tow this behind your motorhome, you can just hook it right up!
If you drive in from out of town to see this, you can easily tow it back if you don't have an extra person to drive both cars!
