Description

For sale: a 1970's original early bay Westfalia camper with a pop top. Good solid frame. nearly free of rust. It runs. drives. and brakes when you decide to and is powered by a 1. 6 liter one port engine. Refurbished interior. but with eye for tradition: the table. the cooling compartment (not a fridge) and sink are original and right where they're supposed to be. I've been told by the previous owner the pop top tent is original (it seems to be. but being from 1984. I wasn't there when they put it in) and considering the age it's in good condition. Drove the van for several trips around Washington state. had fun doing it. and it has never let me down. The plan was to have a specialist do a phased restoration. do some minor work myself. and ship it back with me when I leave the States. Plans and circumstances change. though. It needs work – but you know this. as you're looking at a Westfalia in this price range. But with some effort. you'll have a fun van for the summers to come. Issues known to me at this point in time are: the heating cables are not hooked to the motor (imagine my surprise finding this out on a particularly cold Washington morning). And a suspension ball joint is installed wrong. Had someone with expertise have a look at it. Though I clocked a few hundred miles without problems. I haven't driven it more than a few miles since knowing this. Be warned and please be cautious if you decide to drive it before getting this looked at. I now regret not having it fixed. but at the time was still planning major work that would include - and alter - the suspension.
