Professionally built 1600cc VW engine in a Meyers Manx style body! Over $15000 in chrome and billet accessories! Independent suspension disc brakes and custom pin striping! A true monster on the road or in the sand!
The Meyers Manx was the brainchild of southern Californian Bruce Meyers. Originally a sailboat builder he took his experience and built a prototype using a shortened VW Beetle chassis fiberglass shell and trailing arm suspension. The prototype which he named “Old Red” was finished in 1963 and featured the existing VW running gear and was named after the nimble Manx cat which had no tail. A dozen kits were produced by him until he found that they were too expensive but not before they broke a record racing through Baja California. The project was picked up by B.F. Meyers & Co which provided a stronger financial backing. A Meyers Manx won the first Mexican 1000 on/off-road race and approximately 6000 were built from 1965-1971. They remain popular today for their customizability style and driving experience!
We are very excited to offer this street legal 1971 Meyers Manx style Dune Buggy! As mentioned before this Manx is currently titled and registered in the state of Missouri as a 1971 Special and the next owner will have no trouble doing the same! Upon closer inspection this Manx’s attention to detail is absolutely superb. The motor was ported polished and balanced and then slathered with chrome and yellow accessories. Almost the entire exterior of the motor is finished in a gloss finish whether stainless chrome or billet. Some $15000 was said to have been spent making the contrast to the Sunflower Yellow exterior. Inside the bucket seats are very supportive and finished with standard lap belts although the chairs are receptive to five-point harnesses should the next owner decide to go that route. All lights gauges and accessories are fully functional and the 100+ horsepower motor has no issue getting this vehicle moving at a good clip down the road. The vehicle is cosmetically outstanding and should be quite the site both on the road and at VW enthusiast shows. We can confidently say that this is one of the most well-built Meyers Manx vehicles that money will buy and certainly one that was built by professionals. We would invite any additional questions and encourage interested parties to call. Thanks for looking!
