1960 INTERNATIONAL METRO MILK TRUCK STEP VAN!
This is an airforce issue international multi-stop step van. It was most likely bought new in Montana and has never left. These are very cool milk trucks and have unique art deco styling. There are only a handful vintage step van models that look cool restored or rodded. This is the IHC S120 model, nd this peticular version was the second shortest you could get. The short ones are neat looking too, ut this is the most popular size and has more interior space. Included are pictures of a other vans that have been rodded or restored. I also have more pics of this van that I can send. These vans are very popular for mobile businesses or advertising. They also look cool chopped or lowered and are becoming popular for rod projects. There is plenty of room in the back to stand up and put living quarters, ooking equipment, peed parts, -shirt shop, offee truck, onut truck, attoo parlor or? A harley will fit, aybe two. This truck has a solid body that is mostly straight and has no rust.
MECHANICAL
The metro has what looks to be the original six cylinder. I have never tried to get it running. The motor does turn over by hand. It looks like it was probably running when parked but I don't know. Transmission functions and holds it from rolling and shifts into all the gears. The hubcaps are not included. Tires hold air but are not nice. The van rolls and steers. I've driven several of these vans and they are fine for me to drive but they do not have power steering or brakes. Depending on how much your driving and where, ou can convert these to a more modern suspension with auto transmission. I know a rod builder who has done it and used an independent suspension front clip off a chevy pickup and then you have a modern setup with power disc brakes, ower steering, 8, ore power, etter ride, nd auto transmission. I was told that it is almost a direct bolt on. The chevy front clips are cheap and readily available. I don't know if any lights or anything work on this van. I've never had a battery in it.
BODY
The body on the metrovan is nice for a project. It has a cool patina and could be used as it for a rat rod type vehicle. No rust through anywhere. The body is not perfect, ut is very straight for the most part. The roof is nice. The van needs full restoration but is a great body to start with. Frame, loors, oors, oof sides, tc. etc. are rust free. No rust through anywhere. Floor was scraped and vacuumed to check for rust. The paint is mostly original but there are a couple spots that were sanded and have light filler. A fairly easy repair. Both doors slide some but do not open all the way. I just use the passenger door to get in because I don't know that the drivers door will open enough to get in it. It's normal for these van doors to need cleaned up and lubed. Glass is flat and I know at least one rear window is gone. It may need other glass repair also.
INTERIOR
Not much tosay here. The pics tell the story. The interior is pretty much original. Keys are in it.
OVERALL
This is a great metro to restore back to original or have one of the most unique rods at the car show. Either way, hey get lots of attention and have great resale. I've included a couple pics of restored or rodded vans and I have more I can send.
This van is sold as-is. It is an unrestored project. At this point I do not have a title. I may get it but I cannot guarantee it right now. I will supply a notarized bill of sale which you can use to get a title in your state with a VIN inspection. I have called the Montana DMV and this vehicle has been purged from the system so it is a clean slate. Thanks.
