THE HISTORY THE GENTLEMAN BEHIND THIS CAR LOREN ST. LAWRENCE WAS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT RACING HE WAS RACING AT THE TIME WHEN THESE CARS WERE NEW. HE STARTED OUT RACING OPEN WHEELED LOTUS'S THEN MOVED ON TO THE SUNBEAM TIGERS FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS. IN 1970 WHEN THE NEW 240Z CAME OUT HE BECAME VERY COMPETITIVE IN THESE CARS IN SCCA RACING AGAINST THE LIKES OF PAUL NEWMAN WHO HE BECAME VERY GOOD FRIENDS WITH ON AND OFF THE TRACK. HE WAS SPONSORED BY VIPS AT THAT TIME. IN THE EARLY 80'S HE RACED FOR MICHELOB IN SL380 AND SL450 MB'S. IT DID NOT STOP HERE AFTER THAT HE STARTED WORKING FOR BUDWEISER'S MOTORSPORTS PROGRAM AND HANDLED ALL OF THE RACING CONTRACTS FOR HIGH PROFILE RACERS OF THE TIME INCLUDING BOBBY RAHAL WALTRIP AND BERNSTIEN TO NAME A FEW. THIS WASN'T A GUY WHO JUST WANTED TO BUILD A KILLER Z. THIS CAR WAS BUILT BY A GUY AND HIS FRIENDS THAT KNEW THESE CARS IN AND OUT AND BUILT IT FROM A RACERS PERSPECTIVE. HE WANTED THE BEST DRIVING 240Z AND MONEY WAS NO OBJECT WHEN IT CAME TO BUILDING THIS CAR. THIS Z CAR WAS WELL THOUGHT OUT BEFORE IT WAS BUILT USING ONLY THE BEST PARTS ENGINE COMBINATION AND TRANSMISSION. HE HAD SOME GREAT FRIENDS HELP HIM WITH THE CAR WHO WERE PROFESSIONALS THAT HAD A LOT OF PASSION FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE AUTOMOBILES.
THIS DATSUN WAS PURCHASED BY LOREN ST LAWRENCE ON JULY 20 2004 IN SALINASCA. IT WAS DRIVEN BACK TO SALEM OREGON. TWO WEEKS LATER RESTORATION BEGAN AS IT WAS DISASSEMBLED COMPLETELY. AL EPPERLY DESIGNED AND BUILT A ROTISSERIE AND THE Z WAS TAKEN TO SCOTT DANIELS' PAINT SHOP EVOLUTION AUTO BODY. AFTER THE CAR WAS PAINTED LOREN TOOK THE SHELL FENDERS HATCH DOORS AND HOOD BACK TO HIS SHOP AND BEGAN THE RE-ASSEMBLY. HE POWDER COATED ALL COMPONENTS PLATED ALL THE FASTENERS BOLTS AND WASHERS DYED THE NEW AND OLD UPHOLSTERY AND INSTALLED NEW RUBBER SEALS. HIS GOAL WAS TO HAVE A NEW CAR. LOREN WORKED BY HIMSELF AND CAREFULLY PUT THE WIRING PLUMBING DASH INTERIOR GLASS SUSPENSION FENDERS DOORS HATCH HOOD ENGINE TRANSMISSION REAR END ETC. BACK ON THE Z. HIS WORK WAS FINALLY COMPLETED ON MAY 29 2006 WHEN HE HOOKED UP THE E-BRAKE CABLES.
